Trades for Monday, October 26, 2009

Still not doing much. I sold off my (BCRX) postion in two parts today. Half at 11.23 and the other half after it failed to push higher and a short call based on valuation came out over the wires....exit at 10.95. In the early pre-market it hit 12.40, but my trading platform does not allow me to trade until 8 am ET and by the time it rolled around the stock rolled came in to 10.60 or so.

I'm still trying to lighten up my long exposure and and not tsking on my risk. So I find myself waiting and watching. I watched but did not partake in a nice rip by (YRCW)from 3.40 breakout to 4.10 cross.

Trading week

I have not done much of anything the last week. I sold a few shares of a couple of my positions as I try to raise more cash.

The market seems to have stalled the last few weeks. The big names were moving but the smaller names are stuck in mud or slowly bleeding daily. That seems to have changed today with the bullish reversal of the crazy bearish reversal yesterday. Lot's of talk that that sell-off yesterday was an old fashion beatdown of a large trader who had to exit the market and everyone knew it and jumped on for a free ride. The market was primed for the sell buttons and it all worked...except the earnings still come in much better than expected.

The jobs and housing market are still a problem, and once they show a solid turn for the better we will have the green light. Until then it seems the market is going to go higher on a few things other than fundamentals, performance anxiety and sidelined bored money along with all the shorts that keep jumping in front of the train and adding fuel to the fire.

Trades for Monday, October 12, 2009

I finally got some action in (RAME), a small cap energy name I have been sitting in at 1.69 since last Tuesday. I peeled half at 1.83 and the other half at 1.93 for a nice gain.

I scalped (DEPO) and (YRCW) for gains and lost on (ETRM)on a late buy at 1.05...it was a bit of a gamble.

I added to (KERX) today as well.

A long of mine had good news on some cancer treatments...(MRNA). The stock has been popping and fading awys after every news announcement, so I did not add to it this am and it popped nicely but is now fading as I type this. One to watch and see if it gets some traction.

A slow day but the markets lifted up well but are now fading with 90 minutes to the close.

Trade review for Thursday, October 8, 2009

Just took one trade today in (ACPW). Caught it on some news that Google is going to buy an app from them. Loaded up at .97 and peeled half at 1.04 and the other half at 1.08 for a nice profit.

I sold swing (TER) and added small positons in (KERX) and (AVNR) for biotech news plays.

All in all another slow day in what has been a quiet week for me overall.

Watching (WLP) and the healthcare providers tomorrow.

Trade review for Wednesday, October 7, 2009

I did not make a trade today. I watched as (RPRX)ripped in the pre-market. I almost loaded an order at 1.40 but am loaded down with longs now and do not want to do much until I lighten up some. To pain me further, (CHIP) got news of a patent approval and ripped in the pre-market right after the momo in (RPRX) was dying out. Again I watched and missed a nice run from 2.40 to 3.00 cross. The daily was set-up perfect in a falling wedge pattern for a nice pop...my instincts said to buy but my bloated long list said, "no more". I need to peel some of these longs so I can clean my plate and be ready for these opportunites that seem to come daily....it's costing large potential gains.

The futures are up after (AA) reported a nice earnings release. The shippers seems to be in favor now and commods and global growth are nice. Throw in some energy and we are good to go, but today's petroleum report was a mixed bag with a much larger draw on crude than expeced but much large build in gasoline and heating oil.

Let's see if the momo will continue tomorrow.

Trade review for Tuesday, October 6, 2009

I basically sat on my hands today with exception of buying into a small cap energy name. My swings were doing well again today so I just sat back and did other work as I watched the market.

Natural Gas plays continue to perform from (APA) all the way down to the small names. Energy seems to be the theme for funds, hedgies, and retail players going into the end of the year.

(MSPD) had a nice pop today 2 days after it received an upgrade and $7.00 target.

(HIG) got an upgrade this morning and did not look back.

(UTEK) broke out today on a mid-day upgrade and closed at it's hi. I passed on it at 13.80 because I thought it was extended....nice.

Trade review for Monday, October 5, 2009

I have been trading very light the last few days since my beating on (SQNM). That really is the opposite of what I should have been doing, but that was my current mental state. If I had stayed aggressive and took a few trades that I had lined up but did not pull the trigger on, I would have made up my loss by three fold. Trading is funny, you have to care very much about limiting your losses and using risk control, but at the same time you do not get paid if you do not take risk. It's a fine line and your current state of confidence has much to do with how successful your trading week is.

Today the market seemed to be ready to take on more risk and make a move upward that would send shorts into "cover mode" and getting the momo crowd all fired up again. Volume was light but price is price. If we can take out 105 and 106 tomorrow things could get very interesting.

(NTRI) had news in the afterhours that they will be selling it's meal plans in Wal-Marts. Can you say "oh my and by the way...bye bye shorts". Finviz.com has them with a 25% short float, short squeeze has them with a 26.5% short float and 7,509,700 shares held short and the shorts added 1,300,000 shares short in the last 1-3 days. Bad timing for them, good opportunity for traders to ride a squeeze. In the afterhours the price already hit a new 52 week hi touching 19.16 before settling at 18.60. The weekly chart has resistance levels at 19.50 ish, 22.60, 25.00, and 30.50 ish if it clears all that there is room to run to 42.50 in a hurry. A radar stock to watch for sure.

Trade review for Tuesday, September 29

I got wacked today by SQNM. was hold some at 6.24 when it got halted. I bought more at 2.97 in the after hours and sold everything in the premarket for a nice sized loss. What irked me the most was the stock ripped out of the gate and I could have halved my lost if I just held on for 30 minutes. I exited at 3.34 and the stock never saw that price again after the first 2 minutes of trading. I was spooked by the downgrades to .50 and 1.50. In the end they may be right, but for today with the shorts covering and the bargin hunters and non-believers buying up stock, it was a perfect opportunity to trade out of the loss.

This loss was my fault, as I had planned to exit this positon for a few weeks now and had many opportunities to. I really should have dumped after 3 or 4 spikes above 6.10 were smashed with selling over the last 2 weeks. In hindsight it was a good sign and I will remember if for next time.

I has chances to make back the loss today but was not into it and took time to relax and go see my daughter run a cross country race. The best lost money ever spent.

I'm re-focusing now and plan to make back the loss and some by weeks end.

Trade review for September 23, 2009

In the pre-market (OPXA) was moving up. I held a swing position in it due to it's daily chart and it's erratic trading. I added shares on the pull-back and waited for news. Today was it. It had received a milestone payment. I think this was expected news, but the chart was set-up for a pop and any shorts were sent scambling. I added at 3.84 and sset sell orders for 4.22 and 4.28. The 4.22 got filled and then the stock started pulling back. I did not think the news was great so I sold the rest at 4.12. The stock took off at the open and hit 4.66 and sold off all day after.

I tried a scalp in (KERX) in at 2.97 and then heard news that they are planning a mixed shelf offering. I sold immediately for a .01 loss. Usually these offerings are reason for the stock to sell due to dilution. But (KERX) did not. Maybe the news it had today was very good and absorbed the dilution.

I scalped (THQI) for .07

Added to (CYTK) swing.

And scalped some (YRCW) into the close after missing the whole day's move! I was in this stock with size at 2.51. Ahhhhh, if I only held on. Actually, selling is not bad, but I lost track of it and missed a monster move. This stock brokeout today with massive volume. The short interest was very high with Finviz.com listing it at 27.87%. I imagine some of those have covered but still more to go. The next resitance spot is 7.40 ish on a weekly chart and then major resitance at 12.00.

Trade review for September 22, 2009

I slow day for me as I bought (M) early and immediately knew I made a mistake. I bought at 19.00 when I should have waited for a pullback. 18.60 turned out to be the spot, but because I got in early I wasted my time watching this one when I should have just sold and moved on.

A lot of my swing positions had big days, so I was mainly watching and waiting to see how far they would run.

I made another mistake by not taking profits on my overnight hold on (CYTK). I had .50 cents in the pre-market bought had visions of 5.50, then 6.00, then 6.50. It probably will get there with it's new upgrade and target of $18, the question is when and how far will it pullback?

I missed out on a lot of movers on my watchlist this am including (RINO), (PIR), (RAIL), and (DAN). Such is life, but it felt weird not making many trades and sitting on my hands.

I'm starting to get a feeling that we are going to get sucker punched soon by the bears. I am starting to get out of my long positions this week amd would like to be out of most by Friday. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Friday, September 18 Trade review

Today was a little harder to trade with a lot of stocks being pinned due to OP-EX.

I was seeking out news stories or small off-the-radar plays that would not be affected by pinning. I was trading (ARNA) in the pre-market after trading yesterday in the aftermarket. WOW! I almost carried a swing positon from the mid 6's in anticipation of today's news, good thing I did not at it opened just above 4. I bought it twice at 4.15 and 4.20 and would like to say I kept it all day but did not...sold scalping both times for .09....who knew?!

I also traded (HBAN) after the pricing of it's share offering was announced at 4.20. The last time I saw a popular bank stock announcing it's offering - that price held as support and I bought it at 4.35 and again at 4.27 after it bounced off 4.20. I sold out at 4.34 for a .03 gain mid day as I was tired of watching it do nothing. Sure enough it moved after I sold, but nothing major.

The money was made today in (RPRX) which announced debt resturcturing. I was in first thing of the news at 1.09 and out at 1.21. Then bought in again after a pullback and another push upward at 1.25 and exited a quick scalp into resistance at 1.29.

I also sold my swing position in MWA at 5.37 today.

All in all a very good week.

Trades for Friday

I traded (YRCW), (EDAP), (DVAX), (SVA), (TIV) and (LNG) today. Small loss on (LNG) and all the rest were winners, with (YRCW) and (EDAP) bringing in the most money.

(EDAP)broke out of a nice daily flag or falling wedge and (YRCW) is in the middle or start of a squeeze that going to go on for a while with 27% short interest in the stock.

Trades for Thursday, September 10

I traded (YRCW)alot today. I sold my 4,000 swing shares at 2.67 in the premarket and 2,000 at 2.84 during the morning. The stock did not act very well in the a.m. so I took half off, but with a 29% short positon this stock is poised to pop or bleed higher for awhile.

I added 4,500 more over the course of the day for scalping and bought another 2,000 into the close at 3.15 for a swing.

I also played (GNBT) early and took .09 and .02 on two 5,000 share trades.

Played (DVAX) in the premarket for .20 gain and bought a small swing at the close at 2.62

Got stuck in a false rumor pop today in (SQNM)....so my swing in (SQNM) was added to.

Also, bought a spec Bio that had action in the AH (GNVC)

That's my day....hope you did well. I'll try for a video tonight.

Trade results for Wednesday, September 9, 2009

I'm trying to upload a video to YouTube, but it is taking forever.

Today I;

Added 2,000 to (DRYS) at 6.14 and sold my swing and daytrade at 6.31 and 6.34.

Sold (BNVI) in the pre-market at .97

Added 5,000 to (EXXI) at 1.59 and dumped my swing and daytrade at 1.67 and 1.60

Scalped (SPPI) for .06

Wasted my time in (VVUS) for 3 trades that broke even.

Added to my (YRCW) swing at 2.51 in the morning. It's up in the afterhours on news.

I missed trades in (FIG) and (AXL) today.

My video just got rejected again...."unknown error"...forget it...going to bed.

Tuesday, September 8......No trades today

I did not make a trade today. I was on holiday for the long week-end and am just getting back into the flow. I was watching good action in (JAZZ), (ENER), and (OPXA) today. I just did not feel ready to put on any trades. I was tired and my head was not into it so I took my time. I have plenty of swings to keep me busy anyway.

(YRCW) had news today and is in play

(SQNM) had one of it's many pop, rip and fades today. why these keep happening is a bit of a mystery...shorts being messed with, news on the verge of breaking, or a fund playing games.

(AMD) was nice as well.

It seems the drug stocks are heavy with news as the Universities get back to business. The fall is always good for study results...keep it sharp.

Commodities were on a run fueled by the weak dollar. (PCX) has been a good short near the 10 area.

Trade review for September 1, 2009

The video is uploading now....will post as soon as YouTube accepts it.

(VG) in the after hours ...wow!...hit 2.28, closed at 2.08....I guess I should have held...who knew?

Bearshitters win the day

It was a red day on Cyber Wall Street....good news came and we sold with no real bounce all day. I made few trades, but my swings took some heat.

(VG) had some news in the AH and I caught a little trade on it live while I was doing my trade review screencast....I had no idea why it popped at the time but I jumped on the momentum especially after trading it today. Caught a quick .07 but left .28 as it went on to rip. Turns out it got approved for Apple Apps.

Bearshitters trying

The market had some good news again, but as the last week alluded to, good news is being sold.

I got long a little (SQNM)in the after hours yesterday and then an article is released today denying rumors of a Brown U study showing a 99% efficiency rate. I'm still holding and not too worried, I will wait for the momo to come back and add and trade out with profit....where there is smoke, there is fire.

(EDAP) had great earnings today to go with the apporval of it's ultrasound technology for zapping kidney stones....the volume was great and the stock took off....it sold off some with the market but is holding in there up about 10%. I'm long for a swing here...added to it today.

Back tonight with a wrap-up....I hope to be commenting about the furious rip into the close.....might be so!....or not!

(SPPI) watchlist

Not much doing today.....

I did not trade today. I'm glad I took my profits in (NVAX) yesterday in the afterhours as it traded down some....but keep it on your radar.

(IVN) made a move off of government actions in Mongolia that paved the way for the company to open up shop and start pulling gold and copper out of the ground.

(RTK)is slowing down but still on my radar.

(LDK) reported some news int he afterhours and is trading up has room to 10.00 or 11.00 depending how good the news is...too bad solar is struggling right now.
